CO2OL Tropical Mix in Panama
Countries like Panama suffer under the exploitation of “western” countries, so it is important to support projects there. The CO2OL Tropical Mix project in Panama is committed to reforestation, improving biodiversity and creating fair long-term employment opportunities in sustainable industries for the people of Panama. Fallow land and cattle pastures are being replanted with indigenous trees and slowly restored to healthy, thriving mixed forest, which will then be used for sustainable wood production and environmentally friendly cacao farming. The project creates a number of fair long-term employment opportunities for the local population, which is predominantly of indigenous descent. In doing so, it also helps to improve the economic and social situation for the people of Panama, who in turn contribute their experience to the project. This results in a valuable mutual transfer of knowledge. CO2OL Tropical Mix forestry is conducted in accordance with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines, and the cacao farming is also UTZ certified. Diction’s support of this project enabled us to achieve climate-neutral status since 2019.
