Watchmaking and luxury goods

Synchronised services

The minutiae of mechanical watchmaking are what really make us tick – we have been providing linguistic and project management support for complex international projects in the Swiss watch industry for over two decades.

Translating texts for the watch industry into multiple languages – what should I keep in mind?

Especially for large, complex projects like watch catalogues in what feels like a hundred languages, it’s important to source all translations from a single provider and ensure they can also handle project management, including consultation with the various markets. The same applies to luxury goods in other sectors, of course. In project management, we organise the entire workflow and take care of the layout, for example in InDesign or directly in your website’s CMS.

Why is a comprehensive service so important for the luxury goods industry in particular?

Because there’s usually a lot more to do than “just” translating or proofreading texts. Whether it’s DTP and layout, including microtypography in even the most “complicated” languages, gathering and processing market feedback, or simply keeping everything on track. This takes stamina and, above all, project management with real experience in handling projects like these.

As part of our full-service package, our translators and proofreaders also know the content inside out. They’re well-versed in the intricacies of a tourbillon and the inner workings of a minute repeater strike train. The team also visits watch fairs and talks shop about moon phases as easily as word phrases.

And we’re dedicated to making sure your project runs like clockwork: complicated translation projects in twelve languages with market feedback are no problem for us. And we never need to be wound.

Client story

A project with Beyer Chronometrie

Diction had the honour of supporting traditional watch manufacturer Beyer Chronometrie on their journey into the digital world – proofreading German texts for their new interactive website and translation them into English and, for selected content, Chinese. We used our plug-in technology, and the website texts were exported from the Typo3 CMS directly to our system.

We speak your language

Texts for watch companies often need translating into a range of different languages. Diction’s experts have years of experience delivering the same high quality in Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Swedish as they do in our core languages – English, French, German and Italian – especially when it comes to project management, layout and haute horlogerie translations across multiple languages. We’ve been working with renowned international brands for over two decades and can manage your language projects (including websites, catalogues and PR campaigns) from start to finish.
