Here at Diction, we love it when things run smoothly. We are a long-term supporter of B2Run, the Swiss company fun run, and every year, our team don their running gear and take part in the St. Gallen race. Since February 2018, we have also been supporting B2Run in an official capacity with our translation services. We are very proud of this new partnership, and our team is more than ready for this year’s race as well – doing a thorough warm-up by translating all manner of sporting texts for B2Run.
Our Christmas party took place on 19 January 2018 at the Hundertwasser Market Hall in Staad, giving everyone here at Diction the chance to ring in the new year – somewhat belatedly, in time-honoured fashion. This year’s event was very much in the vein of previous Diction parties, and once the secret Santa gifts had been exchanged and copious amounts of food and drink had been consumed, the only thing left to do was dance the night away.
On 1 January 2018, we celebrated a significant milestone in our company’s history: Diction now has 100 full-time employees! With so many language experts from so many different backgrounds now on board here at Diction, we can safely say that our horizons have never been broader. We wanted to do something to mark the occasion, and decided some cake in the office kitchen would go down well with our ever-growing team. The new year is off to an exciting start: from January 2018, Diction will be taking over the client portfolio of Speckwords, an established Swiss language services provider based in Zug. We are looking forward to working together closely with some wonderful new clients from a range of different sectors – particularly in our top specialist areas, Finance and Legal.
Over the past few weeks, we have spent some wonderful evenings with clients and friends at the Christmas markets in Zurich and St. Gallen. Enjoying the piping-hot glühwein (served in our very own Diction mugs) and great company was the perfect way to wind down after a hard day’s work – even if the weather (icy cold in Zurich and sleet and rain in St. Gallen) wasn’t exactly ideal. Check out the photos from the events:
What began with a guerrilla mission in spring 2014 has rapidly grown into a well-oiled machine. The “night-shift” team in Canada is now so large that they had to move into a larger office. Since October 2017, they have been enjoying the extra working space – and more room to relax with a cup of coffee during their well-earned breaks.
The Diction Legal Translation department was in attendance with a stand at the Swiss Compliance Officers Meeting (SCOM) in Zurich on 29 June 2017. The SCOM is targeted at compliance officers from banks, asset management firms, insurance companies and other financial intermediaries in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and aims to promote an exchange of information and experience. Of course, networking is also an important aspect of the meeting.
BlackRock is the world’s largest independent asset management firm. Founded in 1988, the finance company is active across the globe – including, of course, in Switzerland. Any business with such a large international presence must be able to guarantee the quality of its communications at all times and in all languages. This is why, since February 2017, BlackRock Switzerland has been relying on the language services provided by Diction Finance.
Legendary status? Perhaps not yet. But as the Diction scholarship enters its third year, we can safely say that the scheme is fast becoming something of an institution. The latest lucky recipients are Paula Hüsser and Nathalie Bouvard, both studying Multilingual Communication at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), who have each been given CHF 2,500 to help fund their semesters abroad. One of them is off to Paris, the other is heading north to Edinburgh – but we’re not jealous.
Finally we have proof that we aren’t just the fastest when it comes to proofreading and translating – when language geeks and financial experts compete on the racetrack, you can expect plenty of high-octane action, aching muscles and a lot to laugh about. We’d like to thank our biggest financial client’s racing team for a really fun day. But did it all really happen? The evidence is here – there’s even a video:
